Who we are
We are a group of nurses who recognized that children in homeless shelters and group homes are not being read to and thus are falling behind in terms of literacy. We wanted to help fix that gap by providing read aloud services for nurses (and other healthcare providers) who want to do their part in increasing literacy for these disadvantaged youth.
Mission
Our mission here at Nurses Reading to Kids is to decrease the literacy disparity among disadvantaged youth by reading aloud to them.
Vision
Our vision here at Nurses Reading to Kids is one that results in the increased literacy of children who do not have traditional access to books or an adult to read to them. They can access these book readings anytime, anywhere with a login provided by their shelter/group home manager.
